Synopsis
LORENZO
I had it all.
A wonderful family with a loving wife who was my world and a beautiful baby girl.
I didn’t need anything more to be rich in my eyes.
Then one day, everything changed and my world was ripped apart.
My wife, my everything, was taken from me, and I was left alone to raise our baby girl.
I was forced from late night sessions at the gym to changing diapers all by myself.
Thank God for the help I received from my parents and siblings or I would have been lost.
I accepted my fate of being alone with my baby girl and living life with just us two…
Until the day I met her, and she became everything worth fighting for.

CARISSA
Life was so perfect.
A loving fiancé, wonderful friends and family, and a job I adored.
Until one day, my world was turned upside down and the man I loved threw the promise of forever down the drain and walked out of my life.
The day he walked out of my door, I knew that everything I had ever grown up to believe in was a lie.
Love is unconditional but love sure as hell doesn’t last forever.
The vow to love me for the rest of our lives ended quickly as he pulled away from me, and buried himself in the arms of his ex.
I was left alone, cursing the male species and everyone who had found their happily ever after.
My sister and my best friend were the only ones there for me…
Until the day I met him, and he became everything worth fighting for.

My Review
If you followed me during the Book Blitz, you must already know that I liked the synopsis of this title and that I wanted to read it. It is finally done in several times during breaks from work.
We begin the story in a sad and overwhelming way. Usually these passages are mentioned but not highlighted by other authors. I almost believe that the loss of a loved one is taboo. Bella Emy approaches it in a natural way.
We discover all the characters little by little. Lorenzo and Carissa have one thing in common: a painful past. The evolution of their relationship is slow.
The story is pleasant, there is a good rhythm where only the end seemed abrupt to me. Some explanations and hop it's resolved and hop it's already the end.
I do not know yet if I will continue the series. Not for lack of desire, but I still have a ton of books to read. In short : we'll see later.

Book 1 : It had to be Mason

Author : Emily Lowry

Number of pages : 206

Publication date : October 25th 2020

Collection : /

Publisher : Eleventh Avenue Publishing

Description
Ask your brother’s best friend nicely, and he’ll teach you how to date. He might even teach you how to kiss…

Zoe Walsh is the most awkward girl in Beachbreak High. For years, she’s admired her crush from afar, but she’s NEVER talked to him. What would she even say? She doesn’t know the first thing about boys, or dating. The only thing she really knows is dancing.

Mason McClellan is the charming, all-star quarterback who gets all the girls. He’s also Zoe’s brother’s best friend. This year, he plans to take the hottest girl in school to Homecoming. But she refuses to be his date unless he can dance. Sadly, Mason has two left feet.

When Zoe approaches Mason for dating advice, he cuts her a deal: if she teaches him how to dance, he’ll teach her how to date. Lessons include how to get your crush to notice you, how to get asked on a date, and how to kiss.

The last thing they expect is to fall for each other. But as Homecoming draws near, Zoe wonders – if dating Mason is just practice, how come it feels so much like the real thing?

My Review
It was first the title of the book that intrigued me and then the summary made me want to read it.
The main theme is regularly used in books (the brother's best friend) but for the moment, I don't feel tired because I don't read them often.
The characters are fun to follow. I have a preference for Zoe because I find her character a little more in-depth than Mason.
The story is beautiful, without headach, reads easily and has done me a lot of good in this troubled period.
I plan to follow this series because I want to know more about some characters that I have noticed.
Emily Lowry also wrote "Rumors and Lies at Evermore High Series".

[Blog Tour] Bar Harbor Holiday #1 ~ The Magic Ingredient by Lindy Miller

Technical sheet

THE MAGIC INGREDIENT
Bar Harbor Holiday
Book 1 : The Magic Ingredient

Author : Lindy Miller

Number of pages : 275

Publication date : October 13th 2020

Publisher : Rosewind Books

Synopsis
The end of summer is approaching, but even at the height of Bar Harbor’s tourist season, Eve Silver is having a hard time keeping enough dough in the bank to sustain the family bakery. Her only hope of paying past due bills is to win the catering bid for the town’s upcoming Harvest Happening festival. Otherwise, it’ll be lights out for Mount Desserts by Christmas.

Widower Jeff Perry is moving with his twelve-year-old daughter, Candy, from Manhattan to Maine with one goal: starting over. When sparks fly between Jeff and Eve as the town readies for the annual harvest festival, Candy wishes she had a love potion to help her dad fall in love again.

Will Eve be able to save Mount Desserts—and open her heart to Jeff—by the most bewitching night of the year? It’ll take a lot of love, a little bit of luck … and just a pinch of magic.

My Review
It was the title that initially intrigued me. After reading the synopsis, I wanted to read this story.
The story takes place in a small town in Maine, Bar Harbor, and revolves primarily around the Mount Dessert bakery. I have had my mouth watering more than once.
The narration is made from three different points of view by the most important characters: Eve, Jeff and Candace. The characters are endearing and for the first time I liked them all. I admit that Doris is a bit annoying. Everyone faces challenges but it's by working together that things move forward.
The story is fluid and the pages flow quite easily. It took me a few days to finish it between my shifts. I found only two words that I didn't understand (I'm French) but it help me to learn more English words.
I am delighted to discover Lindy Miller's pen with a great story that goes well with the season. It's heart touching with a pinch of magic and pleasant to read. I will follow her future publications and I'm waiting for the next book in the series.

Number of pages : 251

Publisher : Independently Published - BimHaven Press

Description
Trouble comes in all different sizes...

My name is Dylan Gleason and I have a reputation as a troublemaker—which is why I'm currently serving time on the ice down here with the New Orleans Bourdons. I keep telling myself I'll prove them all wrong and work my way back to the top of my game.

Then I meet Morgan Raymond, the runaway bride with more baggage than a week-long road trip. They can call me a troublemaker all they want but they haven't met Morgan yet--

Something tells me I just met my match...

My Review
After the first volume, I wanted to read this book because I liked the summary. Since it was available in the ARC list on Booksprout, I took the opportunity to read it

This time, another Hockey player is in the spotlight. The relationship between the players is more sympathetic and a little more present.

The beginning made me laugh, even if for nothing in the world I would want to find myself in this situation.

The relationship between Dylan and Morgan is a bit of the same type as that of Nathan and Addy (volume 1) while being different. I am delighted to see that the characters in the first volume play an important role and are very present.

Morgan reveals herself very slowly. One wonders what is holding her back and making her want to run away. When I found out the why, I thought it was a stupid reason.
Dylan is easier to understand. He goes out of his way so he want to understand his actions. Sometimes he reacts before he thinks.

My reading was pleasant but I remain on a question concerning Morgan: what does she do for a living ? Still no problem of understanding with the author's pen.

Number of pages : 236

Description
Rules were meant to be broken...

My life has been nothing but one crap-tastic cluster after another. Getting traded. Being sent to New Orleans. Enjoying a one-night stand—plus a little more—with Adelaide Landry.

How was I supposed to know the beauty with a body tailormade for sex was the daughter of my new hockey team's owner? The problem is, I'm not sure it would have made a difference if I had known. After all, I'm Nathan Shaw and I earned my reputation for being a rule breaker.

Only this time, I may have gone too far...

My Review
I discovered this title due to an error in my search for a book on Goodreads I did not remember the name but which was about Hockey too. A pleasant mistake for once.
The basic theme of the story is hockey. I discovered Hockey thanks to a Japanese series and I liked it. The worst part is that there are two teams not far from where I live, but I have never seen a game in my life.
The story discuss the relationship between the players but the main plot remains centered on Addy and Nathan, the evolution of their relationship and the obstacles that stand in their way.
At first, it seems like Addy is very liberated, but ultimately most of her life is under control.
Nathan is a bit of a burnt head. It was for this reason that he landed in New Orleans. I do not know if I did not pay attention but I think we know less about him than Addy.
My reading was pleasant and quick, except for a length or two. I had no difficulty understanding the story.
I intend to read the next book "Troublemaker" that has an enticing summary.

Publisher : Montlake Romance

Description
Ian “Bash” Sebastian and Ember Carlson were high school sweethearts…until their single parents got married. With one thorny twist of fate, a secret young crush went from on fire to off-limits. What could a new stepbrother do but bail? Now, after almost four years, Bash has returned to Seattle, and he’s back in Ember’s orbit at End of the Line. EOL is the go-to college for second-chance scholarships. But what about love?

Sure, the old hurts are there. So is the attraction—and it’s more magnetic than ever. Still, they’re adults now, levelheaded and just fine with the friend thing. If only to make family dinners less awkward. But when they agree to start dating other people, moving on threatens to bring them closer together than ever.

Is it time to admit their past to their parents? Even trickier, their hope for the future? Because Ember and Bash deserve a love story of their own. With all their defenses down, can they make it a happy ever after?

My Review
Due to Covid-19, I have delayed everything inclued reading books ...
When I could read again, I was overfloaded by work. We are on a very weird period.

I don't know why but this book was easier to understand than the previous one. I went inside the story easier too.

The only thing that remains negative is the length of the summary which spoils the story too much.

Although Bash is part of the American football team, it is less present than with Jess and Logan. We are more focused on the family unit.

I noticed that it is a bit trendy stepbrother and stepsister but it's the first that I read. In fact it's a little different because they know each other before their parents. In French, the term is less precise than in English.

Ember and Bash have injuries that you don't necessarily notice but that make them react in a certain way.

I enjoyed following the characters and meeting Jess and Logan. We are also entitled to an explanation of Ford's behavior with Keilani.

Some parts made me laugh. Mainly the double date which does not end as expected.

It seems to me that this second volume is the last in the series. I will be watching for future releases from Sariah Wilson.

Description
Disgraced college quarterback Logan Hunt was on his way to NFL stardom when he messed up big-time. Now the Texas star player with a bad temper has a new option: Seattle’s EOL College—as in End of the Line, to his fellow misfit recruits. It’s Logan’s last chance. If he can follow the rules. No parties, no fighting, no swearing, and oh, no dating the coach’s daughter, Jess. Simple. Yeah, right. For Logan, there has never been a rule he’s more tempted to break.

The deal is “just friends.” The pretty, confident, and fiercely smart math whiz is fine with pizza, tutoring, and keeping Logan in line. But the closer Jess gets, the more receptive she is to his warm heart and spirit—not to mention his irresistible off-field passes. With defenses down, they’re both heading into the danger zone.

It’s more than thrilling. It’s love. It’s also a game changer that could sideline Logan’s NFL goals - and more important, a future with Jess. But dreams are worth fighting for, right?

My Review
I decided to read this book because I already have the ARC of book 2. I'm so brilliant that I haven't noticed it until it was on my tablet.

Usually for books in English, I need at most five pages to enter the story and adapt to the style of the author. Here it took me almost fifteen percent of the story to get there.

The only negative point is the summary which I find very long and a little too spoiler.

We dive into the university world and the sports part revolves around American football. It changes me from the usual football which I must tell you, does not fascinate me at all. The sportsman with the smart girl is well known but here, she is the daughter of the coach and she knows a lot about American football. This gives them more common points and easy communication.

We discover Logan and Jess in depth. Their pasts are different but painful. I don't wish that to anyone. To make matters worse, in addition to the rules to follow, we have Ben. I think it was done on purpose but I found him tasteless and self-centered.

I enjoyed following the characters. I managed to put myself in place of Jess and Logan. It's not so common. Congrats to Sariah Wilson

There is zero sex scene and ... it doesn't matter. So you know it's not necessary to have one to make a good story.

Bash didn't go unnoticed and I'm glad that the second book is dedicated to him. I will read it very soon but first a little reading in French.

Although the start was a bit laborious, I had a great time with this story. It was only the epilogue that surprised me a little because I did not expect this so quick
