Publication date : February 4th 2015

Synopsis
When a fatal fever nearly wipes out the entire world's population, the survivors of what became known as "the Dying" believe the worst is in the past. Little do they know…

In the aftermath of the Dying, survivor Jessica Monroe searches for sanctuary in a world unlike any she's ever known before. As fear and isolation envelop her, Jessica encounters the sensitive and helpful Jace, who she believes is another survivor. But Jace has a past and secrets of his own that's he not ready to disclose.

Soon Jessica realizes that the destruction of humanity might actually be the first step in a larger, more complicated plan -- a plan that may very well involve her. Struggling to discover her role in a terrifying new world where everything has changed, she must decide who she can trust. But is the price for that trust just too high?

My Review
What attracted me to this title is the theme and the fact that Djinns are involved. You might think I've been a bit of crazy considering the world news for this year. I admit that I had a bit of a nightmare the first night because I have a very scientific mind which tried to make sense of it all.
This is the first time that I read a story with Djinns. I did not find any in French. This is one of the reasons I am happy to read in English. I have a lot more choice of reading by adding the French and English books.
We begin the story in a world identical to ours but what happens afterwards radically changed the planet which is rid of the majority of humans following an epidemic of fever.
We live the change with Jessica, we are sad with her. Even though I know this is just a fiction it is sobering and I thought a lot about my family and what my reaction would be to the same.
The pace is quite quiet, the pages are linked easily without problem of comprehension. There was only one moment when I got a little bored: in chapters 15 and 16.
I intend to continue this series because there is still a lot to discover. I just hope there will be a little more action.
With this book, I discovered Christine Pope. She already has several books and series to her credit. Many are attracting me so many are already joining my wish-list.

[Blog Tour] The Hollis Timewire Series #2 ~ The Unseen Ones by Danielle Harrington

Technical sheet

COVER THE UNSEEN ONES
The Hollis Timewire Series
Book 2 : The Unseen Ones

Author : Danielle Harrington

Number of pages : 328

Publication date : December 1st 2020

Publisher : Acorn Publishing

Genre : Dystopian, Young Adult

Synopsis
After the government’s brutal attack on the Diseased Ones, Hollis Timewire must wade through the carnage of her treacherous mistake.

The survivors want justice, and now Hollis faces impending execution. Each day, she must prove herself to be a model community member. But chopping firewood for the new camp in the forest isn’t enough.

Hollis longs to redeem herself, and this sparks an idea to rescue the little boy from the Testing Center. Stealing the government’s secret weapon might just be the perfect way to destabilize the system – enough to bring the whole thing crumbling down. But unseen forces are at work.

The world is not what it appears to be, and society has a dark secret that not even Hollis is prepared to face.

My Review
We begin this second book exactly where the first one ends. This one offers us more action and we discover more characters. The first mainly opposed the beliefs of one in relation to the other while the latter reveals unsuspected facts that I did not see coming.
Hollis matures during the story. Realizing the consequences of her actions opens her eyes while shaking her completely. I still love to follow her.
The end offers us new information that promises an interesting third book. I am already looking forward to reading it.
The author's style is still so fluid and pleasant. Having had more work, I took more time to finish this book than expected.
Rating : 4,5/5

The Hollis Timewire Series
Book 1 : The Diseased Ones

Author : Danielle Harrington

Number of pages : 301

Publication date : February 8th 2020

Collection : /

Publisher : Acorn Publishing

Synopsis
Life is easy in 2647, unless you're a Diseased One...

On the morning of her 16th birthday, Hollis Timewire receives the worst possible news. She can't become a citizen of the world. She's a Diseased One.

Born with a biomarker that bestows dangerous, brain-altering powers, Hollis is forced to hide underground with other Diseased Ones, who believe that the government falsified history to cover up their genocide.

Now Hollis must discover the truth, and is willing to risk anything, including her powers, to go back home.

My Review
I wanted to read this title when I discovered book two of the series. It's always better to start at the beginning, but I plan to read the two books in succession.
Dystopia is a genre that I love a lot even though I read little of it in the end. I particularly enjoyed the mix with "mutants" being a fan of the X-Mens.
The world in which the story takes place will take Hollis in search of truth. She is skeptical because she is divided between two versions of history, the one she was taught from a young age and the one she discovered through a group of Diseased Ones.
I can easily identify with Hollis even though the ending has proven to me that she is still very naive and easily influenced. I admit that I dropped an "idiot" just before the last page.
The cliffhanger - yes, I said cliffhanger because there is one - makes you want to know the rest. That I will start as soon as my review is finished.
Danielle Harrington's pen is fluid because I was easily drawn into the story. It is a successful first book.
