Synopsis
She only has one night to live…

When an invitation to a ball for the supernatural arrived by moonlight, Lina thought it was a mistake. How can a ghost attend a party—even one as infamous as The Monster Ball?

Determined not to waste a chance to remember what it means to be alive, even if she can’t remember who she is, Lina takes a leap of faith and is swept into a glittering world filled with magic, secrets, and stolen kisses.

She never expected anything permanent to come out of her night with the living. After all, the magic only lasts until dawn. But when she meets an immortal Guardian who vows to help her, she starts to believe that she might have just found the key to unlocking her past. And perhaps, a second chance at having a future.

My Review
It was the cover that caught my eye and the synopsis confirmed my choice.
It is the prequel of the series so it is a short format which allows us to discover a little the universe and the main characters.
It's a mixture of paranormal, mystery and immediate attraction that gives a taste of what to expect and makes me want to continue the reading.
The pen of Meg Anne was unknown to me but she has already written several series. I will look in it after reading "Hint of Danger".

[Review] Before the Fall #1 ~ Interrupting Starlight by Kyndra Hatch

Technical sheet

Before the Fall1
Before the Fall
Book 1 : Interrupting Starlight

Author : Kyndra Hatch

Number of pages : 102

Publication date : September 1st 2020

Collection : /

Publisher : Letahatchee Books

Description
The human composed a song in his heart, a pull he couldn’t ignore, a draw that demanded further exploration—

When he answered a distress call, L’Den hadn’t expected to find one of the Invaders waiting for him. The tug he feels on his soul is even more surprising, drawing him closer to the woman, in spite of her humanity. Both his second-in-command and H’tch, his companion mogha, seem fine with leaving her behind and letting the desert deal with the problem, but he’s not so sure.

Tessa has spent the last two years hoping for a way off the harsh desert planet where her research vessel crashed, watching her friends die one-by-one, and befriending a strange creature of the sand. But when a rescue ship does arrive, she realizes she might have been better off lost. The Korthans, savage aliens bent on the destruction of humankind, aren’t happy to find her. And yet, despite her fear, she can’t deny the pull she feels towards one of them.

Korthans only have one chance to find a true mate, but chasing after the human could risk the safety of the colony he’s sworn to protect. Even though the call of a mating bond demands a higher loyalty, L’Den never expected to have to choose.

My Review
It was clearly the cover that made me want to know more but I confess that I expected a longer story.
The story takes place in another galaxy and in a distant future from us during a war between humans and aliens.
The universe created is coherent and the vessel very interesting. My scientific side is intrigued.
The characters are well worked and the beings who accompany them are amusing by their behavior.
I had a great time with this book and I'm already wondering what to expect next.

Publisher : Indie

Description
Lucifer walks among us. Leading an army of fallen angels, he still takes orders from above. Good cannot exist without evil. Man’s faith must always be tested. It is his job to tempt you. It is your job to walk away. ⁣

He hates his role. He hates our world. He hates Man.
But he still seeks redemption.
The Archangel of Light wants to go home and for the first time in 7000 years he has a shot. ⁣

Unfortunately, his long-awaited forgiveness will only come if he gives up the only person he’s ever loved. ⁣

Livia De Lucio comes from the Light. Descended from angels she’s caught Lucifer’s eye.
Her pure heart intrigues him.
Her beauty enthralls him.
Her love will redeem him.

My Review
It was the cover and the name "Lucifer" that caught my attention. The summary is tempting so I did not think long before applying to the ARC.
We dive directly into a world where angels are very present but humans are not supposed to see them. The duality between good and evil is well brought about.
The beginning made me giggle because I really liked it. It's my demonic side that stands out (Lol).
The characters are very endearing. I adored Lucifer most of the time except towards the end when I took pity on him. Lucia who initially looks strong seems more fragile later.
It was a delightful story from start to finish. It's a short but exciting format. You will not be bored.
I am delighted to have been able to discover the pen of Matilda Martel. She has other titles to her credit that you can find on her website (link below).

[Review] Breath of Christmas by Linda Mooney

Technical sheet

cover Breath of Christmas
Breath of Christmas

Author : Linda Mooney

Number of pages : 55

Publication date : December 18th 2017

Collection : /

Publisher : Music And Press

Description
After being gone for months, there's nothing like being home for Christmas.
Although Brindle has no family there to welcome her back, and the little town has grown since she left, it's still home to her and exactly where she wants to be in these final days.

With a little help from a generous stranger full of the Christmas spirit, the holiday is sure to be perfect for Brindle. Full of love and memories, both old and new.

She just prays she's able to enjoy it before she runs out of time and breath.

My review
It's on NetGalley that I found this title which goes well with the period of the year where we are.

If at the beginning I thought that this book was a bit like "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green, the end takes us away from it and we are more in fantasy.

I was persuaded to shed liters of tears but it's with a smile that I close this story.

The characters are nice. Brindle lugs around his oxygen tank but we don't pay attention. Hamon perfectly embodies the spirit of Christmas. Something we find less and less these days. I like his first name.

The pages scroll more or less quickly. I remind you that English is not my mother tongue. It's a short format so we don't have time to go into everything that could be.

Those who appreciate beautiful Christmas stories should be delighted.

Another author whom I didn't know but who has several titles to her credit. I'll take a closer look.
